COMPOSITION

Contains per ml:

Dihydrostreptomycin sulphate                                200      mg

Procaine penicillin G                                          200,000       IU

 

DESCRIPTION

VETKO STREPTOPEN 20/20 INJ. is a combination of dihydrostreptomycin and procaine penicillin G acts additive and in some cases synergistic. Dihydrostreptomycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, has bactericidal activity against mainly Gram-negative bacteria, like E. coli, Proteus vulgaris, Brucella spp., Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Klebsiella spp., Pasteurella spp. and some Mycoplasmas. Procaine penicillin G is a small-spectrum penicillin with bactericidal action against mainly Gram-positive bacteria (like Streptococci, Staphylococci, some Corynebacterium spp., Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Clostridia spp., Bacillus anthracis) and Gram-negative cocci, Leptospira canicola, Campylobacter foetus and Actinomyces bovis.

 

INDICATIONS

VETKO STREPTOPEN 20/20 INJ. is indicated for treatment of arthritis, septicemia, mastitis, metritis, osteomyelitis, cystitis, peritonitis, gastrointestinal, respiratory, urinary tract infections and secondary bacterial infections caused by dihydrostreptomycin and penicillin sensitive microorganisms, like Campylobacter, Clostridium, Corynebacterium, E. coli, Erysipelothrix, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, Listeria, Pasteurella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. in cattle, calves, pigs, sheep and goats.

 

CONTRA-INDICATIONS

Do not administer to animals hypersensitive to penicillins, aminoglycosides and/or procaine. Do not administer to animals with seriously impaired renal function.

 

SIDE EFFECTS

Hypersensitivity reactions, irritation at injection site. Administration of therapeutic dosages of procaine penicillin G can result in abortion in sows.

 

 INCOMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER DRUGS

 Incompatible with fast-acting bacteriostatic antimicrobial drugs (e.g. tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, erythromycin, lincomycin) and with anaesthetics or other neuromuscular blocking agents (because of respiratory depression and apnoea).

 

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

 For intramuscular injection. Shake well before use.

Cattle                                                     :1 ml per 20 kg body weight for 3 days.

Calves, goats, sheep and pigs           :1 ml per 10 kg body weight for 3 days.

Do not administer more than 20 ml in cattle, more than 10 ml in pigs and more than 5 ml in calves, sheep and goats per injection site.

 

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD

Kidney      : 45 days

Meat         : 21 days

Milk           : 3 days.
