COMPOSITION

Oxytetracycline base 200 mg
DESCRIPTION
Oxytetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belongs to the group of tetracyclines and acts bacteriostatic against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms such as Streptococci, Staphylococci, Pasteurella spp., Brucella spp., Corynebacterium spp., Erysipelothrix, Coliforms, Salmonella, Rickettsiae, Mycoplasmas, Chlamydia and some protozoa. Activity against Pseudomonas, Proteus- and Klebsiella spp. is low. The action of oxytetracycline is based on inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis. Oxytetracycline is mainly excreted in urine, for a small part in bile and in lactating animals in milk. One injection act for two days.
INDICATIONS
VETKO OXY 20% LA INJ. is indicated for animals suffering from arthritis, gastrointestinal and respiratory infections caused by oxytetracycline sensitive microorganisms such as Bordetella, Campylobacter, Chlamydia, E. coli, Haemophilus, Mycoplasma, Pasteurella, Rickettsia, Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. in calves, cattle, goats, sheep and swine.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS
Do not administer to animals hypersensitive to tetracyclines. Do not administer to animals with a seriously impaired renal and/or hepatic function. Do not administer to horses, dogs and cats. Do not administer to ewes producing milk for human consumption.
SIDE EFFECTS
Hypersensitivity reactions, irritation at injection site.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
For intramuscular or subcutaneous injection.
Cattle, pigs, sheep and goats : 1 ml per 10 kg bodyweight.
A single dose is recommended, if required, repeat after 48 hours.
Do not administer more than 20 ml in cattle, 10 ml in pigs or 5 ml in calves, sheep and goats per injection site.
In piglets weighing less than 10 kg a 1 ml dose should be used.
WITHDRAWAL PERIOD
Meat : 28 days
Milk : 7 days.
