COMPOSITION

Piperazine citrate                                        1,000             mg

 

DESCRIPTION

Piperazine is an anthelmintic with activity against nematodes. It induces a reversible flaccid paralysis in the nematode parasites. This is provoked by hyperpolarization of the cell membrane followed by suppression of spontaneous spike potentials. The paralyzed nematodes are subsequently expelled from the gut lumen by normal peristaltic actions.

 

INDICATIONS

Nematode infections in horses, pigs, cattle and poultry.

Poultry   : Ascaris and Capillaria.

Horses    : Strongylus, Oxyuris, Trichonema and Ascaris.
Pigs         : Oesophagostomum and Ascaris.
Cattle     : Ascaris, Nematodirus, Ostertagia, Cooperia and Oesophagostomum.

CONTRA-INDICATION

Hypersensitivity to piperazine.
Administration to animals with a seriously impaired hepatic and/or renal function.

 

SIDE-EFFECTS

Overdoses can cause colic, coughing, excessive salivation, excitation, hyperpnoea, lachrymation, spasms, sweating and vomiting.

 

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

For oral administration via drinking water. 

Poultry                        : 100 g per 100 litres of drinking water for 2 days.

Cattle, horses, pigs    : 1 – 2 g per 10 kg bodyweight via drinking water.  

Medicated drinking water should be used within 24 hours after preparation.

 

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD

Meat       : 2 days

Eggs       : 2 days

 

STORAGE

Store in a dry and dark place between 8 °C and 25 °C.

Store in closed packing.

Keep medicine away from children.

Sachet of 100 g (120 sachets per box).

Jar of 500 g (24 jars per box).

Jar of 1,000 g (12 jars per box).
