DESCRIPTION

Erythromycin is a narrow-spectrum antibiotic belongs to the group of macrolide antibiotics. Erythromycin is bacteriostatic and binds reversibly to the 50S subunit of ribosomes, resulting in the blockage of transpeptidation or translocation reactions, leading to impaired and/or inhibited protein synthesis and, hence, to inhibited cell growth. Erythromycin is effective against most aerobic and anaerobic gram-positive bacteria as well as against some gram-negative bacteria. Erythromycin acts against Mycoplasma spp. as well.
